# Set up your warehouse and vans

Add the places you keep stock, and link each van to the engineer who drives it so they see it in the app.

Each place you keep parts is a stock location: a warehouse, a branch store or a van.

1. Go to **Settings → Stock locations** and select **Add location**.
2. Give it a **Name**, like "Bristol warehouse", and a short **Code**, like BRIS-WH.
3. Choose the **Type**: **Warehouse** or **Van**.
4. For a van, choose the **Engineer** who drives it. Each engineer can have one van.
5. Choose a **Branch** if you have more than one.
6. Select **Add location**.

Once a van is linked, the engineer sees its stock in the app under **Profile → Van stock**, and can use parts from it on their jobs.

## Changing or retiring a location

Select the location in the list to rename it, change its engineer or make it **In use** no more. You can only take a location out of use once nothing is left in it. [Move the stock](/stock/move-stock-to-a-van/) somewhere else first, or count it out with a [stock take](/stock/stock-take/).

## Who can do this

People whose role includes managing stock: by default the stock controller, operations manager and administrator.
