# Labour settings

Set when overtime starts, which time entries get flagged, your holiday year and when job costing warns about going over.

Open **Settings → Labour**.

| Setting | By default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| **Overtime after (hours a week)** | 40 | Paid work in a week beyond this is overtime. Holiday and sick don't count towards it. |
| **Flag entries longer than (hours)** | 12 | Longer entries are flagged **Unusually long** on the timesheet. |
| **Leave year starts in** | January | The month holiday allowances start again. |
| **Default holiday allowance (days)** | 28 | For anyone without their own [allowance](/people/holiday-allowances/). |
| **Warn when cost or hours are over the estimate by (%)** | 10 | When [job costing](/jobs/job-costing/) warns. |

Select **Save**. Changes apply from then on; approved timesheets don't change.

## Unpaid breaks

When an engineer pauses a visit, they choose a reason. Reasons marked as a break count as unpaid break time on the timesheet, not time on the job. By default the **Break** reason is one.

To mark another reason, open **Settings → Reasons**, change the pause reason and tick **Break**.
