# Assets and QR labels

Record the equipment you look after at each site, print QR labels for it, and see its service history.

An asset is a piece of equipment you look after: a boiler, an air handling unit, a fire alarm panel, a lift.

## Add an asset

1. Open **Assets**, select **New asset** and choose the site.
2. Choose the **Asset type**, then fill in **Description**, **Make**, **Model**, **Serial number** and **Location on site**.
3. Add the type's own details if it has any, such as output in kW.
4. Select **New asset** to save it.

Asset types and their extra fields are set up in **Settings → Asset types**, for any trade.

## QR labels

1. In **Assets**, select the assets you want.
2. Select **Print QR labels**.
3. Print on A4 sticker sheets (3 × 8), or choose "Save as PDF" in the print dialog.

Engineers scan the label with **Scan** in the app to see the asset's details and service history. If the camera won't work, they can tap **Enter code manually**.

## When equipment fails or is removed

Choose **Mark faulty**, **Decommission** or **Retire** on the asset. Its history stays. Retired and decommissioned assets can't go on new jobs unless someone gives a reason.

A failed check can also mark an asset faulty by itself, if the form is set up to. See [When a form fails](/settings/when-a-form-fails/). Its certificates are on the [Certificates](/records/certificates/) page.
