# Customers and sites

Add customers and their sites and contacts, put a customer on stop, and tidy up duplicates without losing history.

## Add a customer, site and contact

See [Add your first customer and site](/start/add-your-first-customer/) for the steps. In short: **Customers & sites → New customer**, then **Add site** and **Add contact** on the customer's page.

The **Contacts** tab shows whether each contact uses the customer portal. To invite one, see [Give a customer portal access](/portal/give-portal-access/).

A **site** is anywhere you do work for that customer: a house, a shop, a school, a plant room. Each site keeps its own access notes, hazards and equipment.

## Put a customer on stop

When a customer owes money and you don't want to take on new work:

1. Open the customer and choose **Put on stop**.
2. Say why, for example "Invoices over 60 days".

Their name shows an **On stop** warning everywhere, and anyone logging a job is asked to confirm. Choose **Take off stop** when it's sorted.

## Archive a customer

Choose **Archive** when you no longer work for them. They're hidden from lists and their sites become read-only. Nothing is deleted, and you can **Restore** them later.

## Merge duplicates

If the same customer was added twice, open the one to get rid of and choose **Merge into…**. Its sites, contacts and equipment move to the customer you keep. This can't be undone.
