# Quote approval limits

Why some quotes need a second person to approve them before they go out, and how to change the limits.

Some quotes need a second look before they reach a customer: big ones, heavily discounted ones, or ones with a thin margin.

By default a quote needs approval when:

- it's over **£2,500 including VAT** (counting optional extras, because the customer could accept them),
- it has a discount over **10%**,
- its gross margin is under **30%**,
- or it has no costs entered, so the margin can't be checked.

The quote shows **Why this needs approval** with the rule it tripped.

## Getting it approved

1. Select **Submit for approval**. Approvers are notified.
2. The approver opens it and chooses **Approve**, or **Request changes** with a note.
3. Once approved, select **Send to customer**.

You can't approve a quote you submitted yourself.

## Changing the limits

Open **Settings → Finance**. Clear a limit to switch that rule off.
