# Log a job

Create a job directly when you know the customer, the site and what needs doing.

1. Open **Jobs** and select **New job**.
2. Find the customer, then choose the **Site**, the **Contact** and any **Assets** involved.
3. Choose the **Job type**. It suggests a **Priority** and an **Estimated duration (minutes)**.
4. Write a **Summary** for your team, and a **Description (customer-visible)** if you want the customer to see what's being done.
5. Add the **Customer order number** if they gave you one.
6. Select **Create**.

The job starts at **New Job** and waits in the planner's **Unassigned** list.

## Things Sustainable ERP checks

- **Customer on stop.** You'll see **This customer is on stop** and can choose **Log it anyway**. Your company can also block new jobs for on-stop customers in **Settings → Priorities & SLAs**.
- **Retired equipment.** Using a retired or decommissioned asset needs a reason.
- **A different priority.** If you change the suggested priority, say why.
- **A maintenance contract.** If the site is under contract, you'll see "Covered by contract…" with the contract's attend time. The job uses the contract's SLA and is charged as **Contract** if labour is covered. More in [Contract SLAs](/contracts/contract-slas/).

If the customer uses the [customer portal](/portal/), they can follow the job there and add comments. Their comments appear on the job's notes with their name, and the office is alerted.
