# Set up a maintenance contract

Record a maintenance contract with its sites, value, billing and what it covers, then switch it on.

A contract records an agreement to look after a customer's sites: regular planned visits, faster response times, and reactive work included in the price.

1. Open **Contracts & PPM** and select **New contract**.
2. Find the customer and give the contract a **Name**, like "Harbour View planned maintenance 2026–27".
3. Set the **Start date**, **End date** and **Contract value (£)**.
4. Choose **Billing**: monthly, quarterly, annually, or not billed by instalment.
5. Choose **Renewal**: renewed by the office, or renews automatically.
6. Under **Reactive work covered**, tick what the contract pays for: **Call-out**, **Labour**, **Parts**.
7. Tick the **Sites** it covers.
8. Select **Create draft**.

The contract starts as a **Draft**, so you can add [maintenance plans](/contracts/maintenance-plans/) and [SLA targets](/contracts/contract-slas/) before anything happens.

## Switch it on

Select **Activate**. From then on:

- new jobs at its sites pick up the contract,
- its plans start creating planned visits,
- the billing schedule is set up.

A contract needs at least one site to activate.
